Dogurai was initially made for a Sport Boy themed recreation jam in 2014. Closely impressed by platforming classics and videogame mascots from the 90s, the sport was born of the straightforward concept of a samurai combating robots.
At first we have been unsure if we needed to truly end the sport, so we left it untouched for about two years. After taking it to a neighborhood indie video games occasion although, and seeing the optimistic response, we determined that Dogurai could be our first business launch.
One of many greatest challenges making it was our personal lack of expertise. We already had some sure familiarity with recreation jam, however the distinction between rapidly prototyping one thing and truly ending a recreation, with a lot of phases, mechanics and boss fights is large!
The event course of was very iterative. Every stage was made and remade some instances, as we figured and refined each’s personal id and really feel, in addition to adjusting the sport’s normal problem stage. We needed it a bit difficult, however positively not unattainable, and taking the sport to a lot of native occasions and letting lots of people playtest it was key.
From bike rides to operating away from an enormous lava wall, the sport has eight distinct phases, every with its personal challenges.
Completely different and difficult bossfights. No boss is like every other!
Crispy pixel artwork and catchy tunes, all wrapped up in strong platforming motion.
Canine. Swords. Robots.
Creating Dogurai was a blast, and I’m happy with the top consequence! Simply hope you’ve gotten enjoyable with our recreation too!
