Retro Gaming Steam Highlights June 2020

Here are some fun pieces of retro gaming on sale with Steam right now. For those that do not know, this time of year is the annual Summer Sale. Tons of games go on sale for two weeks or so. For fans of older titles though, this can make it hard to find them. I am going to try and help with that a bit.

Contra Anniversary Collection

Contra Anniversary Collection brings together almost all of Contra’s history. At least up to the 16-bit era and corresponding arcade releases. What is even cooler is Konami included other region variations. Total there are 10 games in this collection. At the asking price that is not a bad deal, but even better on sale. Steam link. Physical copies available on eBay.

Raiden Legacy

This collection gives you Raiden, Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2, and Raiden Fighters Jet. Sadly, no Raiden II in sight here. Ah well, cannot have it all, right? Currently on sale on Steam at about a buck an entry so what do you have to lose? Especially if you love overhead scrolling shooter games (like I do). Raiden Legacy Steam link.

Ikaruga

This is another overhead scrolling shooter. This time there is a unique gameplay mechanic. Like Silhouette Mirage you can change colors and absorb shots/hurt enemies. It adds another layer to the action. Ikaruga Steam link.

Metal Slug franchise

There are several Metal Slug games on sale. For those that do not know this franchise, it is SNK’s answer to Contra. The difference is, SNK went all out with the graphics and action. Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3 Steam links.

Sanitarium

This is a point and click adventure game, like Sierra On-Line and Lucasfilm Games classics. The difference here is, Sanitarium is disturbing. Very much so. You wake up with amnesia and must find out what happened to you. Why are you in hospital clothes? Why is your face wrapped in bandages? Find out if you dare. Sanitarium Steam link.

Double Dragon Trilogy

What could be a better deal than getting three games for your money? Double Dragon Trilogy does just that. You get all three arcade games in one purchase. Now, depending on how you feel about the franchise and its various entries, this could be a good deal or not. Double Dragon Trilogy Steam Link.

Wolfenstein 3D

This is the grand daddy of First-Person Shooters. Wolfenstein 3D was the first taste of computer gaming for a lot of teenagers. Kill Nazis and win the war, collect treasure, and find secrets. For less than the cost of a 20 ounce soda, you can relive some great PC gaming history. Wolfenstein 3D Steam link.

Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle

Finally, at least for this list before I publish it, we have Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle. This collection features seven games total, two that were arcade only till now, and a few niceties added. Obviously, Final Fight is one of the games here – what would the collection be without it? There are also fantasy and futuristic games available. There is online and offline modes and many other add-ons. Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle Steam link.

What other retro games do you know are on sale? Let me know in the comments below that way everyone wins. I know there are a ton, I just had to limit this to a few otherwise the sale would be over before it got published.
